Spring wheat yield and grain quality response to nitrogen rate

Nitrogen (N) is the most limiting nutrient in cereal production, yet its use efficiency remains very low at only 35%. Nutrient (NUE) crucial for increasing crop yield and quality while reducing fertilizer inputs minimizing environmental damage. Optimum N rates that maximize without NUE have been found to vary from location location. This field study assessed effect of on spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) five locations southern Idaho 2015–2017. was applied as urea (46–0–0) immediately after planting rates: 0, 84, 168, 252, 336 kg ha–1. application improved grain (increased protein) even when no increase noted. uptake were affected by rate 2 4 14 site-years, respectively. These observations highlight challenging task pinpointing appropriate optimizing yield, protein, NUE; importance adjusting based location, year, prevalent conditions.
